SynFactory was a free open source interactive modular software synthesizer for Microsoft Windows (up to XP) by Peter Wendrich, licensed under the terms of the GPL (GNU General Public License). It was superseded by SynFactory II aka StudioFactory from the same author. Releases ceased in 2014.

Patching

Patches can be built from separate components and connected together with virtual patch cables. Due to the flexibility of the system, the range of sounds that can be created is huge. The synthesizer is always 'live' and there is no separate edit mode. All changes and edits to the patch can be done while the patch is playing. Generated sounds can be stored in WAV or MP3 format and can be used as samples in other programs. For MP3 compression the open source LAME encoder is used.
