The height of Eurorack modules is [[3U]] ({{sfrac|5|1|4}}" or 133.35 mm), that is three vertical units in a standard [[19-inch rack|19" equipment rack]]. However, the actual height of panels in the Eurorack format is shorter than the 3U would suggest. This is not due to allowances for paint and fitting, (which is seen in many of the other formats), but rather due to a rim on the top and bottom mounting rails (produced by ProMA or [https://web.archive.org/web/20130916044555/http://gie-tec.com/index.html Gie-Tec]).<ref>[http://www.doepfer.de/a100_man/a100m_e.htm A-100 Construction Details]</ref> These have a lip which uses some of the height. So Eurorack modules are often approximately 5 mm shorter than the technically exact 3U height of 133.35mm ({{sfrac|5|1|4}}"). The Doepfer standard is 128.5 mm.<ref name="doepfer.de">[http://www.doepfer.de/a100_man/a100m_e.htm]</ref>
