Synth DIY Wiki:About

The Synth DIY Wiki is a wiki founded November in 2012 for learning and sharing knowledge about making, modifying, or repairing electronic musical instruments and related equipment yourself. It is a collaborative endeavour and requires your input.

The goal of the Synth DIY Wiki is to create an open and accessible, compendium of all the SDIY knowledge out there.

If you see information here that you don't want to be world-readable (perhaps because it is incorrect), please fix it.

Although currently owned privately, this may change if a user-community forms and a viable alternative form of ownership develops.

To discuss anything relevant to do with the wiki itself, start a new topic at the community portal.

History

Started in March 2009 as the Mod Wiggler Wiki, the site became unusable by 2012 due to database errors and a flood of spam. In that year, Rob Kam took a backup using WikiTeam's dumpgenerator Python script, paid for the domain sdiy.info, removed the spam, cleaned up the content, and found hosting for the site. By November 2017, Rob Kam was finding it increasingly burdensome to maintain the wiki due to frequent MediaWiki updates and the need for careful checking to ensure everything is still working properly afterwards. Consequently, he moved the wiki to Miraheze, where he could focus more on the content. In 2018, when Ken Stone closed the CGS website, Rob Kam transcribed and added most of it to the wiki.

There is still a lot of work needed to ensure the wiki has sufficient content.

What can I contribute to this wiki?

As long as it isn't vandalism or spam anyone can contribute to this wiki. You can contribute whatever interests you, and is relevant. With collaboration the wiki will develop in whatever directions are of interest to its community. You can create answers to your own questions or contribute your know-how and experience. You can offer ideas and suggestions for improvements (via a page's Talk tab). You can correct (even if it's only to improve readability) and expand current articles or add new articles. Especially the wiki needs to illustrate articles with media, such as images and audio files.

There are lists of wanted pages (red links), of articles that need linking to and of articles that need expanding.

Licencing requirements

Contributors to the Synth DIY Wiki are not asked to surrender their copyright to the material they contribute. Instead, they are required to co-license their contributions under the copyleft license Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA). This licenses allow reuse and modification, but reserves the right to attribution.
