The difference between Analog (top) and Digital (bottom) Signals.

Digital (signals of data) are represented with a 0 (off) and a 1 (on). Not to be confused with Square Wave

Electronics

Commonly seen as logic gates. In audio synthesis digital electronics can be used in sequencers, MIDI to CV, and other logical operations.
