It can easily be seen, by polynomial expansion, that the following equation is equivalent to the quadratic equation:

$\left(x+{\frac {b}{2a}}\right)^{2}={\frac {b^{2}-4ac}{4a^{2}}}$

Taking the square root of both sides, and isolating $x$, gives:

$x={\frac {-b\pm {\sqrt {b^{2}-4ac\ }}}{2a}}$
