A sound chips is an ICs that generate an audio signal in arcade games, video game consoles, home computers, sound cards and synthesizers.

Synthesis methods

In the late 20th century, various methods for generating sound electronically were developed and used In sound chips these methods include Programmable Sound Generators (PSG), Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM), Sampled Sound (often marketed as wavetable synthesis), and Frequency Modulation Synthesis (FM synthesis).
