The XY controller is a joystick used on some synthesizers to simultaneously and independently control two parameters such as pitch bend and modulation.[1][2]

Moog 959 X-Y Controller

The Moog 959 X/Y controller consists of two audio taper AB type J 10K pots and voltage limiting resistors. When centered the pot is at zero volts and travel is about 15° to either side. Care is needed to set it up so that at full swing the power rails are not shorted. The rotational resistance of the pots dictate the feel of the stick. The shafts of the two pots are simply connected by one L bracket.[3]
