Loudest Warning is a 4U modular synthesizer format, which only specifies the dimensions and mounting holes of the panel and that each module has its own panel. Unlike the Serge format from which it is derived, where a selection of modules share a single full width 17" x 7" panel. All other design details of the module are left up to the designer.[1]

Boat enclosure

The intention is for the panels to mount in a 17" x 7" x 3" boat enclosure, e.g. Budbox or Hammond. The enclosure is modified to fit aluminium mounting rails holding M3 sliding nuts. On the 17" enclosure the first hole is 12" in from the edge, the next an inch away until the last hole at 16+12". Vertically the holes are at 84.5 mm from the centre of the panel. CLee enclosures have a folded edge with M2.5 threaded holes at 1" apart along the length and 169 mm between top and bottom. There are two kinds of rails, Gie-Tec aka Tiptop Audio Z-Rails with a 1.2 mm lip or Vector without the lip. The dimensions for fixing the the two types two types into the enclosure are slightly different.[1][2][3]

Panel

Layout

Most panels are two or three HP wide. The panel mounting holes are 3.2 mm diameter. Some of the early Serge 'paperface panels' were pre-drilled with a grid of 1" spaced holes, irrespective of whether all holes would be needed. Vertically there were either six or eight holes depending on the module. The panel markings were printed (or photocopied?) onto a piece of paper which was stuck on the panel bfore it was was covered over with a single piece of adhesive mylar film or contact book covering film. To space the front panel components out neatly centre each columns of knob/sockets in 1" increments from the panel's centre line.[4][5][6][7]

For our BoCGS and Voltron panels we are using (1) Century Gothic (BOLD) 11pt for the Module name, (2) Century Golthic (BOLD) 10pt for text, (3) 1.5pt for lines, (4) 4.0pt for the frames with a 3.0pt radius for the corners [8]

The Serge font is called ITC Eras, and they use a demi bold (IIRC) for letters written in the knob/jack area, and bold for the module description text. https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7169

Drilling

7 mm for alphas. 8 mm for banana jacks. 9.5 mm for 1/4 jacks. And common for switches seems to be 6.35 mm, the same goes for LEDs (atleast 5mm leds with bezel) - the 3 mm LED bezels I've used needed a 4.34 mm mounting hole. [12] ---

Internal DC power supply

Loudest Warning aka CLee suggest a power bus with 0.100" (2.54mm) 4 pin through hole connector keyed headers (Digi-Key part WM4202-ND, Molex 22232041). The leads, soldered to the PCB connect to the bus via 4 pin 0.100" (2.54mm) connector housing (Digi-Key part WM2002-ND, Molex 0022013047) and crimped pins (Digi-Key part WM2756-ND, Molex 8650805).[15]
